WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED IN SERVING ON THE CAC?
Serving on the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) is a great way to be informed and be of service to Wyoming City Schools and the community. Would you be interested in serving on the CAC? We are currently accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year. Please complete and submit this application by July 31, 2023, if you are interest in joining the CAC for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years.
Made up of volunteer Wyoming residents, district staff, and Board of Education members, the purpose of the CAC to the Wyoming Board of Education is two-fold:
- Through the use of expert community resources, the committee will be responsible for conducting studies and investigations and reporting such findings and making suggestions or recommendations, if any, in areas of school program and operation as those areas of study or investigation are identified by the Board of Education or by the Board of Education and the Committee members with the approval of the Board of Education.
- The Committee will assist in maintaining active and informed school-community relations through the discussion of general educational issues affecting the community of Wyoming and by serving as the communication link between the Board and the citizens.
The committee composition includes business, community and educational leaders; Wyoming City Schools staff members, two board members; the superintendent; and the director of communications. Every effort shall be made to ensure that the makeup of the committee is as truly representative of the community as possible.
In addition to reaching out to board members and staff members, communicating with members of the CAC provides another channel for community members interested in learning more about the work of the district or interested in giving feedback on district-wide opportunities and issues. The CAC will focus on two studies for the 2022-2023 school year. Study topics and guiding questions are listed below.
Weighted Grades Study:
What is our current structure of weighted grades and how does this compare with similar school districts?
What options exist in recognizing the academic achievements of graduating students?
Should we continue to recognize the valedictorian and salutatorian academic status?
What strategies do similar districts implement to encourage students to select courses that support their interests and post-secondary plans and encourage appropriate rigor?
Gifted Services Study:
What are the best practices in providing services to support the academic, social, and emotional needs of gifted students?
What structures do similar districts utilize to address the specific needs of students identified as gifted?
What options related to content, instructional design, and the scope and sequence of services best support the individual needs of gifted students?
What methods/criteria are used to identify students for gifted services?
